List of career achievements by Rafael Nadal

Antonio "Toni" Nadal Homar (born 21 February 1961 in Manacor, Mallorca) is a Spanish tennis coach who has coached his nephew Rafael Nadal to the top of the world rankings.

The Nadals are a close-knit family and share an apartment building in Manacor, Mallorca.[1] Toni has three brothers including Sebastian Nadal and Miguel Angel Nadal and a sister. Sebastian Nadal is Rafael Nadal’s father and owns and manages his own restaurant and window glass company and Miguel Angel, known as the “Beast of Barcelona,” is a retired professional football player who played for RCD Mallorca, FC Barcelona, and Spain’s national team in the 1994, 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups.[2] Toni Nadal studied history at university level, but his real passion was tennis. He became a Spanish tennis professional and trained the number two junior in Spain right out of university and also became a business partner with his brother Sebastian. Nadal also has three children of his own.[2]

Coaching style

Nadal introduced tennis to his nephew Rafael Nadal at the age of four .[1] Rafael also played football and could have gone professional but when Rafael was 12 years old, Toni told him he would achieve greater success in tennis, and from then on Toni became Rafael Nadal’s tennis coach, mentor, support system, strategist, and emotional anchor.[3] Toni trained Rafael on poor courts with bad tennis balls, just to teach Rafael that winning or losing isn’t about the quality of courts, strings, lights or balls but that it is about attitude, discipline, and perspective.[3] Toni is said to be extremely modest, level-headed, down-to-earth and tries to instill these values and qualities to Rafael.[3] His philosophy is that you can only achieve something with hard work and that there is always room for improvement.[3] Apart from that, he tries to develop character in Rafael because he knows that it could have a profound impact on results and motivation.[3]

Career and Charity work

Toni Nadal, along with his nephew, are paid sponsors of Iberostar Hotel and Resorts.[4]

During Rafael's matches, Nadal is highly recognizable as the man who wears an Iberostar hat, one of the foundations that the Nadal family endorses. He collaborates with Iberostar Foundation in order to help the social integration of children and disabled children from the Balearic Islands.[5]
